Organisers of the first South Coast Bull Riding and Bronc Riding Championships are riding high in the saddle after a successful debut championship on the weekend.

A crowd of nearly 2000 people went along to Dapto's Dandeloo Hotel to see the brave bull riders take on the main attractions Romper Stomper, Wild Thing and Beetlejuice.

Blayney rider Paul Little took out the open bull riding title with a tremendous display of bravado on the bucking bulls.

Rick Norris of Campbelltown won the open saddlebronc riding crown, while Gundagai rider Adele Edwards won the ladies barrel riding event.

Rodeo organiser Micheal Shearer said there was a "swag of local competitors" who were cheered on by the spirited Dapto crowd.

"It was really great that so many people turned out because it helped make the night a huge success and helped spur on the local riders," he said.

"We had competitors come to the event from as far away as Cairns in the north to Adelaide in the south."

Dapto rodeo rider Justin Searle was the best placed local competitor after finishing second in the junior steer riding event to Shane Rodney, of Riverstone.
